Dear FACS Parents and Students,
It is hard to believe that another school year has come and gone! I have thoroughly enjoyed having your child(ren) in my class.
The end of the school year brings with it the summer reading program. This year I have decided to do something a little different. I am going to have two reading lists: one for the junior high school and one for the senior high school. Each student is to choose two books from the appropriate list to complete the assignment.
There are TWO exceptions.
(1) The rising 10th grade (9th going into 10th) must read The Road to Memphis. This is the third in the series of the Logan family.
(2) Those novels with an asterisk (*) are long. If you choose one of these, you do not have to choose another (unless you are assigned The Road to Memphis, as stated above).
The assignment is the same as in past summers. You are to keep a journal for these novels. (You may put both assignments in the same journal.) At the end of each chapter, write a good summary paragraph and an analysis. Each paragraph should be at least 5-6 sentences.
Examples of questions you may consider for your analysis are as follows:
How did the chapter make you feel?/What did you think about it?
What did you like/dislike about it?
Was the chapter believable/realistic?
Would you have made the same decisions as the characters? Why/why not?
This assignment will be worth 100 points and is due on the first day of school.
Thank you,
Deana Polk
